Scooter Rental in Patong, Phuket (2026): Prices, Deposits and Tips

Updated 2 November 2026

Patong is Phuket's busiest beach town, and a scooter is the easiest way to get out of it: to Kata and Karon beaches, the viewpoints on the west coast, Phuket Old Town or the Big Buddha. Here are the real prices at a local Patong shop on Goja (checked 2 November 2026), and what to know before you ride.

The deposit

The Patong shop on Goja asks for your passport as the deposit, held until you return the bike. That's common in Patong. If you'd rather leave cash, some shops in Kata accept a ฿3,000 cash deposit instead: see our Kata and Karon guide and our guide to passport deposits.

Riding in and around Patong

  • Traffic is heavy in the evening, especially near the beach road and Bangla Road. Go slowly and expect cars and other scooters to stop or turn without warning.
  • The hills out of Patong are steep. Both the road south to Karon and Kata and the road over the hill towards Kathu and Phuket Town have steep climbs and tight bends. A 125cc carries one person fine; for two people, a 150–160cc scooter (Click 160, PCX, ADV 160) is more comfortable.
  • Rain makes the roads slippery, especially paint lines and the first minutes of a shower. Slow down and brake gently.
  • Wear a helmet. It's the law in Thailand, the police check, and your travel insurance may not pay without one. Two helmets come with every bike on Goja.
  • Park in marked motorbike bays and lock the steering.

Licence

You need a motorbike licence from home plus an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles. Police checkpoints around Patong do check. Without the right licence you can be fined, and travel insurance may refuse to pay after an accident.
